Accusations, Insults Fly as Saraki and Adamu Attack Each Other
Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, and former governor of Nasarawa State, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, yesterday, July 30th exchanged harsh words with each accusing the other of being a mischievous, compulsive liar.
In a statement signed on his behalf by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, Saraki stated: “I have deliberately ignored the antics of Senator Abdullahi Adamu, especially his constant media attack on me and the Senate since Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, dusted his file on alleged case of corruption and also went ahead to arraign his son in court.
“So far, I had refrained from responding in kind out of respect for his age. However, it seems he has misread my maturity and respect for docility. He feels the best way to play his self-survival game and ingratiate himself to the government in order to save his skin is for him to be seen to be fighting Saraki, even if that would require him to tell brazen lies and peddle mischief in his old age. However, I feel his latest statement in an interview with a national newspaper deserves a reaction from me. First, I could not have referred to my colleague, Senator Dino Melaye, as a clown, knowing that from available records, Senator Melaye has so far out-shined and has performed better than Senator Abdullahi in terms of the number of bills sponsored, motions raised and contributions to the debate on the floor. Clearly, Adamu’s seven years cannot be compared to Senator Melaye’s three years. Senator Adamu is free to challenge this assertion by showing his records.”
“Again, I restate that Senator Adamu is a deceptive, manipulative and desperate liar. He only says what suits him as the occasion demands. I urge people to check his contributions on the floor before the EFCC moved against him and his son and they will see that this is a latter-day, selfish supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari. We know what he was saying about the President and his administration and what should happen in 2019 during discussions with our colleagues, particularly former governors in the Senate. I specifically recall some statements he made about the President and his administration during an official trip we made together to Morocco in March last year. At the appropriate time, we will give more details.”
In response, Senator Adamu said: “My case with the EFCC was between 2010- 2015 and it was terminated June 28, 2015. My counsel is Ibrahim Abdullahi, SAN, he is based in Abuja, anyone can go and verify. I have no case anywhere in Nigeria, Saraki is the one that is telling lies, he is the mischievous and compulsive liar. Saraki is just doing himself; he started the problem for himself. He started plotting to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari when he was sick. He thought that the President will not come back, unfortunately for him and fortunately for all of us, the President came back.”

Imo House of Assembly Impeach Eze Madumere
Imo state House of Assembly has impeached Imo state Deputy Governor, Eze Madumere and replaced him with Mr Calistus Ekenze.
The call to impeach Madumere was voted for by 19 members out of 37.
This impeachment follows a report received by the Assembly through a panel set up by the state chief judge which allegedly indicted Madumere of gross misconduct. The former deputy governor was accused of abandoning his duties for a long time and refusing to carry out official duties assigned to him by the governor, among others. The House set up a six-man committee headed by Kennedy Ibe, member representing Obowo Local Government Area to probe the allegations and report back within seven days.
Madumere has been having a running political battle with Governor Rochas Okorocha over the latter’s successor in 2019. While he seeks to succeed Governor Okorocha, the governor reportedly supports his son-in-law. The crisis worsened during the APC local government and state congresses in the state with Okorocha and his deputy supporting separate factions. Although the APC faction supported by Madumere and Senator Osita Izunaso, was initially recognised by the national leadership of the party, its election was overturned by the court.

Residents Find Dead Baby in Septic Tank
The Lagos State Police Command in Ajegunle area of the state has arrested a 28-year-old woman identified as Arabe Basi who threw her newly born baby into a septic tank, killing the baby.
The incident occurred in Edidi street in Amukoko, Ajegunle.
According to a resident known as Iya Modinat the bloated body of the baby was discovered by a tenant who woke up to fetch water from the well at about 6 am on Sunday, July 29th.
According to her, she thought it was a heap of dirt that was carelessly thrown inside the septic tank. Out of curiosity, she moved closer to ascertain the kind of dirt it was, so as to enable her to know which of the tenants threw it there, only to discover it was baby. Her scream alerted other tenants who rushed out to discover that a newborn was wrapped inside a white cloth. As they were screaming and cursing whoever did it, one of the tenants said she saw when Arabe came out at an ungodly hour and dropped something inside the opened septic tank. By the time they went to her one-room apartment, she was not there”.
However, a preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly called a nurse who injected the baby to death immediately he was delivered.
Confirming her arrest, spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, Chike Oti, a Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP said: “On July 30, at about 11 am a woman came to the Amukoko Police Station to report that on July 28, around 5: 15 a.m. One Arabe Basi who was seven months pregnant conspired with one woman called Iya Mana and Injected the suspect, as a result, she delivered the baby dead and threw the baby into the septic tank.”
